This page links to pictures of some of the birds you might see in and near the Thousand Islands. Remember, although there are many of species found in this area, they are not found here year-round, or necessarily at the same time. Some are year-round residents, like these shrikes. If you go to the islands, remember - the trick is to see how few birds you can scare, NOT to see how close you can get before they fly off. Many of the birds you see in the winter are here in migration and they need to feed to regain energy without having to take to wing too much.
Flight costs a lot of energy and older birds can have the balance tipped to where they don’t make it back north to breed if they aren’t able to rest and refuel. These older, more experienced birds can be the ones with the best chances of producing young that survive. So look but don’t scare them.
