Falcon and Osprey

As most people know, the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) is huge.  But unlike most buildings it is very open inside.  It consists of 4 bays with a wide transfer aisle between them, running roughly north-south. In the transfer aisle you can look straight up to the ceiling, over 500 feet above you. As you can see in the picture below, the VAB dominates the landscape.

Many birds, especially vultures, actually fly inside the VAB.  On Saturday October 7, 2006, a peregrine falcon chased an osprey into the VAB, killed it, and ate it.  Peregrine falcons hunt birds in flight and can reach speeds greater than 200 mph when diving on prey.
